Dizon orders replacement of sandbags used as barriers along Kalinga road with proper warning devices

MANILA, Philippines — Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon ordered immediate corrective measures after discovering inadequate safety barriers along a damaged section of the Babalag-Kinama-San Francisco National Road in Barangay San Pedro, Rizal, Kalinga during an inspection visit on Monday. Dizon expressed disappointment after seeing that sandbags had been used as makeshift barriers to mark a road slip area, saying such temporary measures were insufficient to protect motorists and commuters using the vital route. The DPWH chief immediately directed concerned personnel to replace the sandbags with proper road safety devices and warning systems to prevent accidents and ensure safer travel conditions. The order aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to guarantee the safety of road users, particularly on major national roads that serve as critical transportation links for communities and agricultural producers. The affected highway is an important route for farmers in Kalinga, enabling them to transport agricultural products to markets and nearby provinces. Dizon stressed that public safety could not be compromised and that road hazards must be addressed using appropriate engineering and traffic management measures. While in Kalinga, the DPWH also joined the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela activities at Liwen West Elementary School in Rizal town.
