Bus firm to cooperate with LTFRB probe on Benguet road crash

MANILA, Philippines — The management of Victory Liner on Tuesday assured concerned government agencies of its full cooperation in the ongoing investigation in connection with the road accident in Tuba, Benguet on May 30, 2026 which resulted in a woman’s death and injury to over 90 people. The bus liner, in a statement emailed on Tuesday to reporters, said it also acknowledged the issuance of a preventive suspension order by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) covering 26 of its fleet of buses. “First and foremost, we reiterate our deepest condolences to the family of the passenger who lost her life and our prayers for the full recovery of all those who sustained injuries. The welfare of our passengers remains our highest priority,” the bus company vowed. It reiterated that it would provide all necessary records, maintenance documents, operational reports, and other information that may help establish the facts surrounding the incident. “We note that the findings are preliminary and an ongoing investigation is underway. All relevant facts should be thoroughly examined before final conclusions about the cause of the accident and responsibilities are made,” said the company whose main office is near Monumento, Caloocan City. The bus firm noted that while no company is perfect, “Victory Liner remains committed to safety, compliance, fleet upgrades, and excellent service.” “Over the years, our company has invested heavily in modern vehicles, preventive maintenance systems, driver training programs, and operational safety protocols to protect our passengers' welfare. These investments reflect our belief that public transportation is a public trust,” it said. It said that it was already working closely with relevant government agencies, hospitals, and insurance providers to ensure that all affected passengers would receive the assistance, medical support, and insurance benefits, among others, “without unnecessary delay.” Saying it was committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement, the bus firm said safety would remain paramount as it began reviewing maintenance, protocols, and fleet management to find measures that could better protect passengers. Initial reports indicated that a southbound bus bound for Pangasinan lost control while negotiating a steep curve along Marcos Highway in Sitio Caucalan, Barangay Taloy Sur, also in the same Benguet town. It then collided with a private vehicle and another bus which traveling uphill toward Baguio City. As a result, the southbound bus overturned, blocking the lane leading to Baguio City which triggered an emergency response.
