"Leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) , Kim Jong Un, marked the 80th founding anniversary of the supreme political school of the DPRK by attending a commemorative women’s football match and meeting with the nation’s top athletes. Footage shows Kim warmly congratulating the tearful players and coaching staff of the National Football Team, after their gold-medal victory in the 2026 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup, alongside the Naegohyang squad, champions of the 2025-2026 AFC Women's Champions League. Kim held a commemorative photo session with both teams, encouraging them to secure more trophies for the country. The high-profile meeting comes after the Naegohyang team returned from a victorious tournament run in the ROK, where they defeated Japan’s Tokyo Verdy Beleza 1–0 in late May at the Suwon Sports Complex to lift the championship trophy. During the post-match press conference, the team abruptly walked out of the media briefing after a reporter used the labels ‘north’ and ‘northern side’ instead of the official title, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The demo match was part of the celebrations for the 80th founding anniversary of the Central Cadres Training School of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the highest and most prestigious political education institution in the DPRK, specifically designed to train, cultivate, and re-educate the ruling party's top officials and future leadership backbone. According to KCNA, during his keynote address, Kim lauded the school as a 'strategic fortress guaranteeing the long-term existence and ideological purity of the party', while emphasising that the core 'people-first' principle of the WPK must remain completely unshakeable in the training of the next generation of cadres."
