A deadly fire in the early hours of Monday in an apartment in Amstetten was "very likely" caused by smoldering cigarette remains, according to the police. An open flame, such as a tealight, cannot be ruled out as the cause either, police spokesman Johann Baumschlager explained to the APA on Tuesday. The Lower Austria State Criminal Office had determined the cause of the fire. The victim is the 36-year-old resident of the apartment.
