BBC Reporter Condemns Donald Trump's 'Increasingly Confusing' Iran War Comments

(AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) Donald Trump is making “increasingly confusing” statements about his attempts to end the war in Iran , according to a BBC reporter. North American correspondent Peter Bowes said “we’re still getting mixed signals from the president” about whether negotiations to end the conflict are bearing fruit. His comments came as Trump claimed “talks are continuing at a rapid pace” with Iran, but with still no end to the war in sight. On Radio 4′s Today programme this morning, Bowes said American voters are also “becoming increasingly impatient” with the continuation of the conflict, which began at the end of February. He said: “We’re still getting mixed signals from the president. Certainly over the last day, increasingly confusing and prone to change at a moment’s notice. “In the space of a few hours on Monday, he gave an interview to NBC in which he said ‘I don’t care if peace negotiations with Iran are over’. He was asked if the Iranians had told him they were not going to negotiate further, and he said they haven’t, and he added ‘I think we’ve been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent will be very good’. “And then, in a post on Truth Social, he said talks with Iran ‘were continuing at a rapid pace’, and in an interview with ABC, he said he thinks there will be an agreement with Iran to extend the ceasefire and re-open the Strait of Hormuz ‘over the next week’, which is clearly what his close supporters and across America it is what people want to hear. “It’s going to take some time if that happens, or when that happens, for oil prices to come down and for it to filter through in terms of effecting petrol prices here. “But that is the gripe that I’m hearing every day from Americans, who are becoming increasingly impatient with this war, the reason why it started, and it’s implications.” Meanwhile, Trump reportedly told Israeli prime minister Bejamin Netanyahu he was “fucking crazy” for launching fresh strikes on Lebanon. According to the Axios website, the president told Netanyahu: “You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.” Subscribe to Commons People , the podcast that makes politics easy.
