ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed all federal ministries to ensure meaningful consultation with subject-matter experts for the integration of modern technologies across key sectors of the economy, in what he described as a crucial step towards accelerating industrial modernisation and sustainable growth. Chairing a high-level review meeting on policy reforms and investment promotion, the prime minister stressed that the development of industry and skilled trades, coupled with increased foreign direct investment, remained essential for strengthening Pakistan’s economic outlook. He said long-term economic planning must be firmly anchored in public welfare, national prosperity and structural resilience. He observed that domestic manufacturing must not only meet local demand but also significantly contribute to rising export volumes, thereby improving the country’s external account position. Reiterating the government’s economic priorities, the prime minister said effective policy interventions were required to boost domestic production, improve competitiveness, and create an enabling environment for investors. He added that reforms across industrial, commercial and broader economic sectors should be designed with a long-term perspective, ensuring sustained benefits for both the economy and the general public. The prime minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to formulate a comprehensive energy strategy aimed at meeting future demand through alternative and renewable energy sources. He said energy security remained central to economic stability and industrial productivity. Turning to the transport and energy sectors, the prime minister emphasised the urgent need for a robust and comprehensive electric vehicle policy. He said such a framework was essential for promoting energy conservation, reducing fuel import dependence, and providing affordable and environmentally friendly transport solutions to the public.
