Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham in season four of Ted Lasso Ted Lasso is nearly back for its much-anticipated fourth season , but Ted/Rebecca shippers definitely shouldn’t get their hopes up for love blossoming between the two characters this time around. In a new interview with Variety , Hannah Waddingham – who plays Rebecca Welton in the Apple TV+ sports comedy – shot down the suggestion that Ted and Rebecca could ever become more than just friends. “I love that we buck against the norm,” the Emmy winner said of the platonic relationship between the CEO of Richmond AFC and the peppy football manager. “They are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things,” she added. When pressed on whether she can understand why fans are rooting for a romance between Rebecca and Ted, the recent SNL UK host sidestepped the question. “I love all the relationships in it,” Hannah said, shutting down any further talk of the two getting together in the upcoming episodes. Elsewhere in the interview, Hannah spoke about her “love-hate” relationship she has with the show’s creator Jason Sudeikis thanks to his creative process. “There’s always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene,” she explained of the Emmy winner’s on-the-spot script rewrites, which allegedly caused production delays during season three. Hannah continued: “With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute.” Ted Lasso isn’t the only recent TV show which has some fans rooting for a male-female friendship to develop into something more, despite the cast’s protestations to the contrary. While some fans have long rooted for Carmy and Syd on The Bear to get together, lead actor Jeremy Allen White had to clarify in Vanity Fair in 2024 that there was “no talk in the rooms about any romantic implications” between the two characters. New episodes of Ted Lasso return to Apple TV on Friday 5 August.
