IRGC releases footage of missile, drone strikes targeting 'US airbase and fifth fleet headquarters'

"On Tuesday, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) released footage that they said documents the launching of missiles and drones towards a 'US airbase and the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet'. The location and time of the footage cannot be independently verified. In a statement, the IRGC public relations department said, "The American enemy targeted a communications tower belonging to the Revolutionary Guard south of Qeshm Island with its aerial projectiles." "In response to this aggression, their airbase and helicopter centre in one of the countries of the region, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet naval centre, were subjected to missile and drone attacks carried out by the IRGC Aerospace Forces," the statement added. In response, the US Central Command posted on X on Wednesday that the Iranian claims were 'false', adding that 'all Iranian attacks on US forces have failed, and US forces remain vigilant and ready to defend against unprovoked Iranian aggression'. "An additional wave of Iranian drones attempting to attack US forces in Kuwait failed to reach their intended targets tonight. US Central Command air defences successfully shot down several drones, ensuring that no US personnel or facilities were harmed," the statement added. These developments come amid ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, aimed at reaching an agreement to end the ongoing state of tension between the two countries since February. The United States and Israel previously launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and appointed his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor. Tehran responded by launching missile attacks targeting Israel and several countries in the region. On April 8, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran to allow space for negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the crisis before later extending it “until Tehran presents its proposals" without setting a timeframe. Islamabad hosted a round of talks between the United States and Iran on April 11, mediated by Pakistan, but they did not lead to any results. The second scheduled round between the two countries has also not yet taken place, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts in this regard. Since then, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been restricted, while the US Navy has maintained a blockade of Iranian ports, despite the ceasefire agreement."
