'We have a treasure' - World Cup exhibition in CDMX revives Mexico 70 and 86 with fans' memories and Pele's room

"The building of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) in Mexico City welcomes soccer fans with the exhibition "Collective Memory 70 and 86: The City That Never Stops Playing," a showcase that brings together memories and testimonies from the 1970 and 1986 World Cups held in Mexico, in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. The exhibition is on display in June and July and gathers around 600 pieces, including photographs, tickets, jerseys, and other objects related to the two World Cups hosted by the country. A large part of the collection comes from fans' collections and contributions, although it also includes works by guest artists. The venue also houses the so-called "Pelé's Room," a recreation of the space where the Brazilian star stayed during the 1970 Mexico World Cup. The space displays original objects that belonged to the former soccer player, including a Brazil national team jersey and a pair of sandals. "We have his signed and certified shirts. Well, I mean, what I could say is that we have a treasure here," said Pedro Kumamoto Aguilar, Secretary General of the CISS. He explained that the project to open the room dedicated to Pelé began to take shape four or five years ago. For its development, the institution collaborated with the Brazilian Embassy and various foundations. The government of Mexico City hosts the World Cup, held from June 11 to July 19, with more than a thousand cultural and sports activities. "Collective Memory 70 and 86: The City That Never Stops Playing," which brings together about 600 pieces of memorabilia contributed by city residents with memories of those World Cups."
