"Huge waves battered the coast of Nichinan city in Miyazaki Prefecture as Tropical Storm Jangmi moved along Japan’s Pacific coastline on Wednesday. Footage shows large swells crashing into the shoreline as winds strengthened ahead of the storm’s passage. Authorities warned of further disruption as Jangmi tracked north-east towards the Kanto region, including Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. The Japan Meteorological Agency urged residents along the Pacific coast to remain alert for high waves, heavy rain, swollen rivers, flooding and landslides. Jangmi had earlier made landfall in Wakayama Prefecture with typhoon-strength winds before weakening to a tropical storm. The system brought sustained winds of around 90 kilometres per hour. It later moved to about 150 kilometres south of Tokyo with sustained winds of 25 metres per second. The storm disrupted transport and power supplies across Japan, with hundreds of flights cancelled, train services delayed or suspended, and tens of thousands of households losing electricity. Residents in affected coastal areas were advised to follow official warnings and avoid approaching the shoreline as sea conditions worsened."
