"Secretary of State Marco Rubio was asked about reported of plans to send Afghans who had helped US forces abroad 'to the Congo' during his Foreign Affairs Committee appearance in DC on Wednesday. "That's just one country. The policy of the United States is to find multiple countries and they would be able to choose which one they want to go to of the options that they're presented. That was based on a leak of an internal document. That was just one country that expressed interest, but there are multiple others that have as well," Rubio replied. A US media outlet reported that the US was considering relocating more than 1,100 Afghans - currently in limbo at a former military base in Qatar - to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The employees of US forces and interpreters have been waiting for over a year, and are also said to include hundreds of women and children. The US suspended admissions for Afghans and others last November, after US National Guards were dead by an Afghan asylum seeker."
