Smoke rises over Nabatieh as reported Israeli strikes hit southern Lebanon

"Plumes of smoke rose over the city of Nabatieh and surrounding towns in southern Lebanon following a series of Israeli airstrikes, as hostilities along the border continued. Footage shows smoke billowing from multiple locations in and around Nabatieh, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa and the Ali al-Taher Heights. According to Lebanese media, one resident was killed in an Israeli drone strike on the Bir al-Qandil neighbourhood of Nabatieh, while a paramedic with the Islamic Health Committee was killed when an ambulance team came under attack while transporting the wounded people following a raid on the town of Zabdin. Local reports added that a Lebanese army soldier was killed in Nabatieh al-Fawqa after an Israeli drone struck him while he was riding a motorcycle. Reports added that Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on the towns of Arnoun and Aadshit, while artillery shelling targeted the Ali al-Taher Heights and nearby areas around the town of Choukine. Earlier on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 3,516 people had been killed and 10,674 wounded since the conflict escalated on March 2. The Israeli military had previously issued evacuation warnings to residents in parts of southern Lebanon, citing what it described as Hezbollah violations of the ceasefire agreement and attacks on Israeli territory. On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced a new ceasefire agreement aimed at halting attacks between the two sides and averting a major Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. On April 15, Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. The truce was later extended for three weeks following talks hosted by Washington, before another 45-day extension was announced in mid-May. Meanwhile, the Israeli army has designated what it calls the “Yellow Line” in southern Lebanon, restricting residents from returning to certain areas under its control. This measure is part of a tactic previously used in the Gaza Strip, where it designates areas under its control within ceasefire agreements and prevents civilians from entering them. Israel earlier indicated it intends to establish a ‘security zone’ inside Lebanese territory stretching from the border to the Litani River, an area equivalent to around 10% of the country. "
