"Due to difficulties in distributing their products caused by the blockades and protests that have been affecting the country for the past month, Bolivian producers of milk, eggs, and cheese have begun selling directly in public squares and spaces in Cochabamba. Footage filmed on Wednesday showed the long lines of citizens forming to buy dairy products at affordable prices. While the measure was well-received by consumers, they criticised the Bolivian government's response to the food shortage. "Why did we vote? Why did [the politicians] come in if they don't want to work? To harm the country? It's not fair. Now there are no vegetables either. Look at how we're getting by, how these people are selling and starving in the sun, in the cold," expressed Sabina Ledezma, a housewife. Others urged President Rodrigo Paz to take measures to ensure the supply of essential food in the city during the blockades and protests by farmers' unions. 'Unfortunately, due to perhaps the previous government's mismanagement, these are the results now. I think President Paz should already make some decisions because the people can't continue in this situation either,' indicated Betty Taraberta, a housewife. Meanwhile, the leader of dairy producers, Johnny Alba, warned that they would give the federal government a two-day deadline to provide a solution to local producers. "If the government doesn't solve it in 48 hours, well, we'll have to say they should step aside. We can no longer endure the producer's situation," he asserted. Due to the ongoing blockades and shortage, several citizens have urged President Paz to declare a state of emergency in order to regain control of the roads and restore the normal food supply."
