"The 17th edition of the African Taekwondo Championships came to an end on Tuesday in Bamako. Footage shows athletes warming up before their bouts, the trophy ceremony, including taekwondo athletes receiving their medals, and event participants performing on the tatami. "It is an immense source of pride for me to win a gold medal in this competition. Knowing that this is the very first time Mali has hosted the event makes the joy indescribable," said Fatoumata Bassoum, one of the athletes. For Ibrahima Sarr, the coach of the Senegal national team, and Abdoulaye Mancadiang, a Senegalese athlete, they both shared that the strength of their team was the result of hard work, consistency, and participation in numerous international competitions. These experiences brought valuable lessons to the team and helped them achieve success. "I always encourage my athletes to keep working hard and persevering, and today we are seeing the rewards of those efforts," Sarr said. According to Sy Aminata Makou Traore, President of the Malian Taekwondo Federation, the event achieved excellent results both in terms of sporting performance and organisational success. She added that the federation will now focus on promoting the sport nationwide. "This will involve training programmes and technical development, and our next step will be to organise refereeing and coaching seminars," she said. The competition took place from May 30 to June 2."
