Korea has been elected as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2027-2029 term, the foreign ministry said Friday. It will mark the country's 11th term serving on ECOSOC, which is one of the principal bodies of the U.N. overseeing global discussions on economic, social and development issues, comprising 54 member states, according to the ministry. The election was held during the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Thursday (local time). "We will actively participate in discussions on key global challenges, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change and digital transformation, while contributing to global efforts to address shared economic, social and development matters," the ministry said in a release.
