"Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Lao PDR President Thongloun Sisoulith in Beijing on Friday, pledging to strengthen ties and support the Lao PDR's 'socialist path'. "We are willing to carry forward traditional friendship with Laos, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, maintain close unity and collaboration, promote a new leap in bilateral ties, and jointly build an all-weather China-Laos community with a shared future in the new era," Xi said during the meeting. Meanwhile, Sitoulith said he was 'extremely honoured' to lead the delegation on the Lao PDR's state visit to China. "What makes me particularly glad is to be able to meet you again," he continued. "You are a close comrade and friend deeply respected and trusted by the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), the Lao government, and the Lao people." This is Sisoulith's first official overseas trip since his re-election as general secretary and president of Laos, and it coincides with the 65th anniversary of bilateral ties and the Year of Laos–China Friendship. "We believe this visit will further enhance high-level mutual trust between our two parties and countries," he added. Ahead of the talks, Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, hosted a welcome ceremony for Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife, Naly Sisoulith, outside the Great Hall of the People. Sisoulith is scheduled to conclude his five-day state visit to China on Saturday."
