As-Saksakiyah under attack - At least six killed amid Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon

"At least six people were killed amid an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon's municipality of As-Saksakiyah on Saturday. Footage shows responders working amid destroyed buildings and burnt-out vehicles as civil defence teams working to extinguish fire. "This house here belongs to an innocent person; three of its residents were killed. About 50 metres away, there is another house with four martyrs," Hussein Haidar, a local, shared. "The Israeli enemy only uses its force against defenceless, innocent people." Earlier on Friday, the Israeli army had issued a warning to residents of a number of towns and villages, including the town of As-Saksakiyah, to evacuate and head north of the Zahrani River, confirming its intention to launch air strikes on 'Hezbollah positions'. On Wednesday evening, the US State Department announced that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to an 'implementation of a ceasefire' under US auspices, to include a complete cessation of hostilities by Hezbollah, with the withdrawal of its fighters from south of the Litani River. Under the agreement, the understandings also provided for "the creation of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces will take exclusive control of the territory to the exclusion of all non-state actors", according to the US State Department. On April 15, the US President announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, and on April 23 confirmed its extension for three more weeks, following direct talks hosted by Washington between Lebanese and Israeli officials, before the US announced a further 45-day extension in mid-May.
