SOCIAL media discussions and political speculation have fueled talk of a possible political alliance between Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Risa Hontiveros ahead of the 2028 national elections, although neither has publicly expressed interest in forming a presidential ticket. The speculation emerged following the appearance of the so-called “WinRi” brand on social media, a reference to the names of Gatchalian and Hontiveros. The term gained traction after supporters created online content highlighting the two senators’ interactions and collaborations in the Senate. One Facebook page, “Sherwin X Risa — WinRi Advocate,” features photos and videos of the two lawmakers attending Senate proceedings and public events. The page, however, carries a disclaimer stating that it was created for entertainment purposes and is neither connected with nor endorsed by Gatchalian or Hontiveros. Political observers have suggested that the online campaign could be an early attempt by supporters to promote a possible Gatchalian-Hontiveros alliance for the 2028 elections. However, no formal discussions or announcements regarding such a tandem have been made by either senator. Both lawmakers gained national attention for their roles in Senate investigations into illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) activities, including inquiries involving former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. Their work on the issue has led some supporters to view them as potential partners in a reform-oriented political platform. The speculation comes amid broader discussions about possible alliances for the 2028 presidential race, which remains more than two years away and for which no official campaign period has begun. Another potential tandem being discussed by supporters online is a partnership between Vice President Sara Duterte and Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano. The idea gained attention after Sen. Robinhood Padilla publicly expressed willingness to serve as Duterte’s running mate but indicated he would defer to more senior political figures, such as Cayetano, should they seek the position. Vice President Duterte announced on Feb. 18 her intention to run for president in 2028. Cayetano has not publicly declared plans to seek either the presidency or vice presidency in the next election cycle.
