Korea's only giant panda family welcomes new cub

Korea's only giant panda family has grown once again. Everland, the country's only zoo housing giant pandas, announced Wednesday that female panda Ai Bao gave birth to a healthy female cub on June 3, marking the third successful giant panda birth in Korea. The newborn joins her older sisters — Fu Bao, born in 2020, and twin sisters Rui Bao and Hui Bao, born in 2023 — making Ai Bao and her mate Le Bao the parents of four daughters. The birth carries added significance as 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Everland Panda World and a decade of joint panda conservation research between South Korea and China. According to Everland, operated by Samsung C&T's resort division, Ai Bao, 12, gave birth about two hours after labor began. The cub was born at approximately 10:53 a.m. weighing 171 grams. The weight is considered healthy compared with the birth weights of her sisters. Fu Bao weighed 197 grams at birth, while Rui Bao and Hui Bao weighed 180 grams and 140 grams, respectively. Everland said both the mother and cub are in good health and are being monitored around the clock by zookeepers
