Survey: 86% of Filipinos favor alliances with nations to defend WPS

MANILA, Philippines — Almost nine in 10 Filipinos believe that the Philippines should ally with like-minded nations such as the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, and South Korea to defend its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), a Pulse Asia survey revealed. The survey, commissioned by the Stratbase Institute, was conducted from May 3 to 7, 2026 among 1,500 respondents. It found that 86 percent agreed that the country should defend the WPS alongside partner nations. Only 3 percent disagreed, while 11 percent were undecided.
