Washed away - Floodwaters swallow homes and farmland across China’s Guizhou province

"Heavy rain flooded residential communities and farmland in China’s southwestern Guizhou province over the weekend. Drone footage filmed in Qianxi on Sunday shows neighbourhoods, roads and fields submerged after days of intense rainfall. According to provincial weather authorities, 53 monitoring stations across Guizhou recorded torrential rain from midday on Saturday, with two stations in Qianxi registering more than 200 millimetres. Officials warned that another band of heavy rain was moving from west to east across the province on Sunday. Some areas were forecast to receive as much as 300 millimetres, with rainfall rates potentially reaching 90 millimetres per hour. Local media reported that crops in several townships were damaged, while low-lying communities suffered severe waterlogging. Authorities activated flood-control and emergency-response measures amid warnings of flash floods, landslides and further disruption. The flooding comes during an intense wet season across southern and central China. Heavy rain in May caused deadly flooding and landslides across several provinces, including Guizhou, prompting elevated weather alerts and emergency operations."
