The Czech Republic is set for one of its most demanding fixtures at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where it will face Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, recently renamed Estadio Banorte. The match is scheduled for June 25 at 03:00 local time and will take place in a stadium widely regarded as one of football’s most historic venues. The Azteca is the only stadium to have hosted two World Cup finals and will once again be part of the tournament schedule as the competition marks its 60th anniversary. Located on the outskirts of Mexico City, the stadium has been central to some of football’s most defining moments. It hosted the 1970 World Cup semi-final between Italy and West Germany, often referred to as the “match of the century.” Sixteen years later, it became the stage for Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal and his second strike against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final, later known as the “Goal of the Century.” Earlier still, Pelé lifted the World Cup trophy there with Brazil in 1970.
