PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday paid tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), recognizing their invaluable contributions not just to their families but also to nation-building. In his message on the 31st Migrant Workers Day, Marcos praised the goodness, hard work, ability, and resilience of Filipino workers worldwide. He acknowledged their sacrifices, leaving behind their loved ones to seek better opportunities abroad and provide a better future for them while also contributing to the Philippine economy. “But in return, you miss your loved ones, miss celebrations with your family, and face challenges that only you can understand,” Marcos said in Filipino. “Despite all this, you continue to fight with the Filipino qualities of being hardworking, reliable, caring, and steadfast in any trial that life throws at you,” he added. The chief executive reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of OFWs and their families by continuing to promote their rights, expand support services, and provide opportunities for their eventual return to the Philippines. Through the Department of Migrant Workers and other related agencies implementing programs for migrant workers, Marcos vowed sustained assistance and protection for OFWs while abroad, and provision of opportunities when they decide to settle back in the country. “May this Migrant Workers Day remind us that every OFW story is a story of courage, of hope, and of nation-building,” Marcos said. “Together, let us promote a new Philippines where every Filipino worker, no matter where they are, is protected, has opportunities, and has dignity. Long live our OFWs!” he added.
