The mall said it temporarily closed on June 8 to ensure the safety of its customers and employees, with thorough inspections of all facilities and utility testing ongoing. SM City General Santos added it is coordinating with the local government unit and relevant authorities to support ongoing safety inspections and ensure proper safety measures are in place. The closure is among the early signs of the earthquake's impact on General Santos City. The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has advised the public to refrain from reentering buildings, particularly those showing signs of damage and high-rise structures, as aftershocks remain a threat.
