Erwin Tulfo apologizes to Senate employees and workforce following recent outburst

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Erwin Tulfo on Monday apologized to Senate employees after he warned them that for those who will not follow the new leadership of acting Senate president Win Gatchalian will be investigated and could be charged with insubordination. Tulfo issued the apology in response to the concerns of the Senate employees' union on who follow amid the power struggle between the 12-member "new" majority bloc under Gatchalian or the "old" 10-member majority group under Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, who insisted to be the legitimate Senate president. "My remarks were driven by intense emotion and extreme frustration over stalled legislative proceedings, but that does not excuse my behavior," said Tulfo. "It was highly inappropriate, and it is not how a public official should conduct themselves. I am sorry,” he said during a meeting with the Senate employees. Rosel Eugenio, president of the Sandigan ng mga Empleyadong Nagkakaisa sa Adhikain ng Demokratikong Organisasyon (Senado), accepted Tulfo's apology on behalf of the workforce noting that the union recognized the sincerity behind his statement. Eugenio added that the union is now looking forward to an upcoming meeting with the senator to foster a more collaborative working relationship moving forward. Tulfo urged his colleagues to resolve the legislative standstill so that the Senate can fully resume its duties. He said the Senate should focus on passing crucial proposed measures to address the economic struggles of the people.
