Pasig to pilot community ER facility

PASIG CITY will set up its first Community Emergency Room Facility in District 1 to handle minor injuries and non-critical medical cases, a move aimed at reducing congestion in the city’s hospital emergency rooms. Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto announced during the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday that the project has a completed program of work and an allocated budget. “If you only have a small injury or a minor illness and do not want to go to a hospital ER, just go to the community ER,” Sotto said. He said the city will test the concept in District 1 and could build a second facility in District 2 if the pilot project proves successful. Sotto said the initiative broadens Pasig’s effort to strengthen health care services while reducing pressure on public hospitals. He also announced that the upgrading of Pasig Hope Medical Center is almost finished. Once the facility reopens, the city plans to improve the emergency room of Pasig City General Hospital (PCGH), which regularly experiences overcrowding and long waiting times. “For those who have been there, you know how cramped it is and how long the lines in our ER always are,” Sotto said. The upgrading and renovation of PCGH is included in the city’s 2027 Annual Investment Program and presented to the City Development Council. Sotto stressed the importance of expanding PhilHealth coverage and strengthening partnerships with private health care providers as part of the city’s long-term goal of achieving universal health care access.
