MANILA, Philippines—Senate President Pro tempore Sherwin Gatchalian said he was flattered by netizens romantically-linking him to fellow Sen. Risa Hontiveros. This comes after #WinRi went viral on June 5, 2026 when netizens shared clips of the two praising each other. Gatchalian described the online pairing as “nakakakilig” (heart-fluttering) and said being associated with Hontiveros was a privilege. “Senator Risa is hardworking, brave, and she is a great senator; she works seriously so for me, it’s an honor to be associated with her,” he said in Filipino. When asked about speculation that he and Hontiveros could form a tandem in the 2028 elections, Gatchalian brushed off the idea, saying it was too early to talk politics. Gatchalian on Saturday visited the victims of the fire that struck Parola Compound in Binondo, Manila on May 23. About 2,000 families have been displaced and were staying at a nearvy evacuation center. Gatchalian turned over 3,100 bags of rice to the affected families.
