MAKATI City is closer to securing a formal drug-cleared city declaration after Guadalupe Viejo became the last of its 23 villages to be recognized as drug-cleared, city officials announced on Saturday. The declaration followed validation and deliberation by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Program, hosted by the city government through the Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council. Mayor Nancy Binay said the recognition of Guadalupe Viejo completed the drug-cleared status of all villages in Makati and marked a major milestone in the city’s antidrug campaign. “With all 23 villages now recognized as drug-cleared, we are one step closer to becoming a fully declared Drug-Cleared City,” Binay said. She said the development reflects Makati’s sustained efforts to promote public safety, community welfare and cooperation among government agencies and residents. Binay credited the achievement to the combined efforts of village officials, law enforcement agencies, health workers, community leaders and residents who supported the city’s antidrug initiatives. Under Department of the Interior and Local Government guidelines, a village may be declared drug-cleared after passing a stringent assessment and validation process to ensure compliance with national antidrug standards. The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing, chaired by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director, is responsible for reviewing and validating villages under the national Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
