"Russia’s Shiveluch volcano erupted in the Kamchatka region over the weekend, sending a towering ash plume around 10 kilometres above sea level. Footage captured on Saturday shows a huge cloud rising above the crater before gradually spreading through the atmosphere. The Kamchatka branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Geophysical Survey said the eruption prompted a red aviation hazard warning, the highest level on the four-colour scale. Experts warned that Shiveluch remains highly active and that further explosive eruptions could send ash as high as 12 kilometres, posing a potential danger to aircraft travelling through the region.
