"The presidential candidate of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, arrived on Sunday at one of the HQs of the party located in the Lima district of Villa El Salvador. Fujimori was accompanied by Luis Dyer, head of representatives of Fuerza Popular. The representatives are accredited by political parties to oversee the electoral process and safeguard their interests during the voting and counting. Fujimori monitored the tasks carried out by volunteers in charge of supervising polling stations and vote counting at various points in the country, and handed out hot drinks to those who had been fulfilling their duties since early morning. "Our gratitude to all the volunteers who are participating today as representatives of our party. There are more than 95,000 people who are defending democracy," said the candidate. However, the official platform of the National Jury of Elections recorded a total of 15,105 people across the country. Fujimori, who is seeking the presidency for the fourth time, faces Roberto Sanchez, the candidate of the leftist coalition Juntos por el Peru and former Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism. The runoff followed the first round of voting on April 12, after no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote. More than 27 million Peruvians are eligible to vote in the election. A presidential term is five years, but political instability has seen eight presidents since 2016."
