"Skiers and snowboarders swapped smooth finishes for spectacular splashdowns as the 14th Crazy Weekends festival brought the ski season to a lively close at the Snegorka resort in Russia’s Far East on Sunday. Footage shows participants dressed in colourful costumes racing down the slope before launching themselves into a pool, with many attempting flips and tricks along the way. The challenge was simple in theory but difficult in practice: descend the mountain, cross the water obstacle and reach the other side as dry as possible. "The water is warm, the adrenaline is kicking in, and everything's fine. It's a great event," participant Alexei Krasnov said. Athlete Vita Cherednichenko described the descent as a rush of excitement, saying that 'your head just switches off' and that participants barely realise they have reached the finish. Organisers said favourable conditions helped the event go ahead after it was moved to June 6 and 7 because of the weather. The resort also used snow cannons to maintain the slopes and provide safe conditions for competitors. Beyond the sporting spectacle, visitors enjoyed the Yagel fair featuring local artisans, as well as food courts, entertainment areas and masterclasses. The annual Crazy Weekends festival has become one of Magadan’s most anticipated end-of-season events, combining winter sports, costumes and plenty of icy plunges to bid farewell to the snow."
