CEBU CITY, Philippines — Public schools in Central Visayas are currently facing a shortage of 10,000 classrooms, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7 said. The update followed the opening of academic year 2026-2027 on Monday, June 8, where the agency projected around 1.6 million students to enroll across the region. Tomas Pastor, chief of the Education Support Services Division, said public schools in Cebu account for the largest deficit, with the province lacking 8,287 classrooms as of this report.
