'Everyone here is tired but ready!' – Sheba Medical Centre prepares underground hospital amid renewed Iran strikes

"Doctors at Sheba Medical Centre prepared a fortified underground hospital in Ramat Gan on Monday following the latest escalation with Iran. "Unfortunately, we are in another round of conflict with Iran, and we need to methodically bring all of the patients down here for their protection. Some units are staying above ground, but the critically ill patients who cannot mobilise themselves, who cannot move to the shelter, are being brought down to here," one medical doctor said. "Everyone here is tired but ready to tackle whatever will come for however long it comes," she added. Hospital officials explained that the reinforced complex allows medical teams to continue treating intensive care, neonatal and other high-risk patients while reducing their exposure to potential missile attacks. Sheba Medical Centre is the country's largest hospital and has repeatedly transferred critical departments to protected underground facilities during previous rounds of fighting. "The thing that gives me the most comfort is knowing that this team of doctors is one of the most resilient and capable teams that I have ever been part of. And here in Israel, we're very, very good at this. We've done this many times before," the doctor explained. It comes after Iran launched missiles against Israel on Sunday - with Tehran saying it was responding to the latest IDF attacks on Beirut - while Israel defied US President Donald Trump's call to stand down. On Sunday, President Trump announced via a post on Truth Social that Israel and Iran are 'looking to do an immediate ceasefire,' adding, "final negotiations on 'peace' are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way." Monday marks the 100th day of the very first US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February. Iran responded by launching attacks on its Gulf neighbours - saying it was targeting US assets - while those Arab countries in the region, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and others, condemned Tehran's strikes as a violation of sovereignty, and a threat to regional security."
