Civil society groups march to Senate, back resolution vs China embassy

MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Filipinos Do Not Yield (FDNY) Movement and several allied organizations marched to the Senate on Thursday to stage a lightning rally to express support for the chamber’s adoption of Senate Resolution No. 37, which condemned what lawmakers described as unacceptable actions and statements by the Chinese Embassy against Philippine officials and institutions. The protest action aimed to affirm public backing for the Senate’s position on the West Philippine Sea and to denounce what they described as improper conduct by China’s ambassador to the Philippines. Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans defending the country’s maritime claims. FDNY spokesman and co-convenor Giselle Albano said the rally was held to support the passage of Senate Resolution No. 37, which condemned the Chinese embassy's alleged remarks and actions against Philippine officials and government institutions. The activity was organized by the FDNY Movement and joined by the Alyansa Bantay Kapayapaan at Demokrasya, Liga Independencia ng Pilipinas Youth, PADER, Kabataang Artista, Manunulat, at Mananayaw para sa Sining at Kultura, Alyansa ng Kabataan sa Komunidad, Liga ng Magkakapitbahay sa Parola Binondo, Cavite Volunteers and Runners for WPS, Katipunan ng Responsableng Maralita para sa Bayan, BBM Calamba Warriors, and several groups identifying themselves as loyalists.
