With less than two days before the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to kick off in Toronto, there are a number of road closures you need to be aware of, especially if you live in, work in, or are planning to travel through Liberty Village and Fort York. Over the course of the global tournament, the City will be implementing a "transit-first approach" to mobility, meaning that during this time, public transit, walking, or cycling will be the most efficient ways to travel through the area surrounding Toronto Stadium , as vehicle traffic will be significantly limited. You're better off leaving your vehicle at home if you're planning on attending any of the matches or the FIFA Fan Festival, as there will be no public parking available at Toronto Stadium, Exhibition Place, or within Liberty Village and Fort York. Along with the FIFA-specific road closures, Fleet Street, between Fort York Boulevard and Strachan Avenue, will be closed until the end of July to make way for construction and the operation of temporary transit infrastructure improvements. To help manage crowds on game days, the Fleet Street transit hub will run from Strachan Avenue to Fort York Boulevard, and will include dedicated queing and boarding areas to help manage crowds. On Toronto match days, road closures will be in effect five hours before match start times and will end three hours (or sooner) after the match ends. Road closures will be in effect on: Friday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (match starts at 3 p.m.) Wednesday, June 17, from 2 p.m. to midnight (match starts at 7 p.m.) Saturday, June 20, from a.m. to 9 p.m. (match starts at 4 p.m.) Tuesday, June 23, from 2 p.m. to midnight (match starts at 7 p.m.) Friday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (match starts at 3 p.m.) Thursday, July 2, from 2 p.m. to midnight (match starts at 7 p.m.) During these days, full street closures will be in place around Toronto Stadium, including on Manitoba Drive, Strachan Avenue from Lake Shore Boulevard West to East Liberty Street, Lake Shore Boulevard West from Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road, and Princes Bouelvard. Local access passes will be distributed to residents and businesses who live and work in Fort York and Liberty Village ahead of the tournament. Local access restrictions in Liberty Village will apply on Toronto match days, starting five hours before kick-off to three hours after the match ends. In Fort York, local access restrictions will remain in place throughout the duration of the tournament and FIFA Fan Festival. As part of the FIFA Fan Festival, local traffic-only road restrictions will also be in place around the Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway from June 10 to July 19. The City says congestion is expected to be the busiest on match days between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., so if you absolutely have to travel through the area, make sure to plan accordingly and consider taking transit. If you're planning on riding your bike, Bike Share Toronto will be offering bike valet services from June 10 to July 19 at Toronto Inukshuk Park (all event days), Ordnance Park (Toronto match days only), Hanna Green P (Toronto match days only), and St Andrew Subway Station (Toronto match days only). There will also be four ride-share and taxi drop-off and pick-up locations near the FIFA Festival and Toronto Stadium, namely Lamport Stadium (open on Toronto match days only), Douro Street (open all match and Fan Festival days), Front Street West, and Bathurst Street (open all match and Fan Festival days), Stadium Road (open on Fan Festival days, not including Toronto match days).
