Bad news: the Galaxy A27 could be set for a significant price hike, with the phone losing its unique selling point in the process. Journalist and tipster Roland Quandt has taken to Bluesky to reveal alleged European pricing for Samsung’s delayed cheap phone, and it’s not good news. Quandt claims that the Galaxy A27 will start from €349 for the 6/128GB model in Europe, moving up to €439 for 8/256GB. That’s a €50 increase over the Samsung Galaxy A26 for the entry model, and a €70 bump for the higher model. It might not sound like much in isolation, but it represents a significant increase in a cheaper phone such as this. Put another way, the Samsung Galaxy A27 is going to be between 17 and 19% more expensive than its predecessor. If it turns out to be true, we’d expect similar hikes in the UK and US, which would almost certainly push it out of budget phone territory. The mid-range Galaxy A57 is a solid phone overall, but I grumbled a fair amount about its own raised price in my review. “[I’m] not thrilled with Samsung bumping up the price, given the relative lack of advancement and the existence of better-performing or more exciting rivals for less money,” I wrote at the time. There’s a glimpse of positivity in all this, in that early signs suggest that the Galaxy A27 will be a significant upgrade over the Galaxy A26 – in design terms at least. Leaked CAD renders suggest that Samsung is finally doing away with the teardrop notch, and is reducing the size of its chin – two elements that positively screamed “cheap and old” in previous phones. But competition among mid-range phones is fiercer than ever, so the Galaxy A27 may struggle to stand out.
