DSWD sustains indigent seniors’ pension

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that it will continue the disbursement of Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens nationwide. Data from the agency showed that as of June 9, more than 3.4 million beneficiaries had received their first-quarter pension while over 1.28 million seniors had already been served for the second-quarter payout. The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens provides a monthly stipend of P1,000 to help cover the daily subsistence and medical expenses of economically challenged elderly citizens. Among the regions with the highest number of beneficiaries are Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Eastern Visayas (Eastern Visayas), Region 4B (Mimaropa), Region 12 (Soccsksargen) and Region 13 (Caraga). In Central Visayas, some 3,401 indigent senior citizens from 44 villages in Ubay, Bohol, received their second-quarter stipends during a two-day payout activity conducted with the support of local officials and DSWD personnel. ”We continue to strengthen payout activities across the country to ensure that our senior citizens receive their social pension as quickly as possible, as this provides significant help for their daily expenses, particularly food, medicines and other basic necessities,” DSWD Protective Services Bureau Director Alfrey Gulla said, noting the initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure that the needs of indigent senior citizens are adequately addressed. ”With the help of our partner local governments and agencies, we are able to expedite payout operations and ensure that assistance is delivered efficiently to our elderly beneficiaries,” Gulla added.
