LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Before the first storm hits the country next year, the state weather bureau already has a full list of typhoon names ready for use. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), an average of 20 typhoons pass through the country annually due to its location near the Pacific Ocean. MANILA, Philippines — Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) Commissioner Rossana Fajardo on Friday announced that she resigned from the fact-finding body tasked to probe anomalous flood control projects. In a statement, Fajardo said her "courtesy resignation" would be effective until Dec. 31, 2025. Fajardo said she believed that "I have completed the work I set out to accomplish when I was appointed." "I believe that the investigative and prosecutorial responsibilities will now transition to other agencies, such as the Department of Justice and the Office of the Ombudsman, which are better positioned to ensure accountability for contractors and government officials," Fajardo said. "Additionally, with the recent prioritization of bills for the creation of the Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption and the Independent People’s Commission, a permanent Commission with enhanced powers will be more effective in supporting the Ombudsman’s office in prosecuting parties involved in irregular government infrastructure projects," she added.
