Iran's Ghalibaf says diplomacy and military pressure can halt Israel’s attacks on Lebanon

"Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf claimed that Israeli attacks on Lebanon could be halted through military pressure and diplomacy. "The Lebanese affair is a good example that shows the diplomatic arena, alongside the military arena, can push back Israel and the enemies," Ghalibaf said in an audio recording released on Monday.

"Neither does diplomacy hinder military operations, nor do military operations hinder diplomacy", he added, noting that "sometimes you stop Israel's attack on Beirut by threatening an attack and cutting off negotiations; other times, you show with an attack that you have no fear of breaking off negotiations and are fully prepared."

He went on to accuse the US and Israel of ceasefire violations because of the maritime blockade and the attacks on Lebanon.
"Our goal is to end the war and create sustainable security, not – absolutely not– the normalisation of relations with America , and we have no trust in the other side," he concluded.

Israel and Iran exchanged strikes overnight for the first time since the latest ceasefire. Iran's launched missiles against Israel on Sunday - with Tehran saying it was responding to the latest IDF attacks on Beirut - while Israel defied Donald Trump's call to stand down. Meanwhile, Iran said it was ending attacks on Israel, amid reports the IDF was doing the same. Donald Trump told them both to 'stop shooting'. Last week, reports suggested Trump had called Netanyahu 'f***ing crazy' in a phone call for threatening to attack Beirut's southern suburbs - which also saw Iran warn that it would halt talks if Israel did so. Monday marks the 100th day of the very first US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February. Iran responded by launching attacks on its Gulf neighbours - saying it was targeting US assets - while those Arab countries in the region, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and others, condemned Tehran's strikes as a violation of sovereignty, and a threat to regional security.
