"Dairy producers from the municipality of Alto Lucero protested Tuesday outside the Government Palace in Xalapa, Veracruz, by dumping and giving away dozens of litres of milk. With cows, trailer trucks, and buckets filled with milk, the producers demanded action in response to the halt in purchasing the production from about 45 ranchers who delivered their product to the Palma Sola Collection Centre. The protesters argued that the federal government's decision had left thousands of litres of milk without a market and caused significant economic harm. Martin de Jesus Sosa Molina, one of the affected producers, explained that thousands of litres of milk spoil daily due to the halt in purchasing from producers, forcing them to dump the product or sell it at very low prices. "It's a huge impact because the plant receives 14,000 to 20,000 litres of milk [daily]," he explained. The farmers have stated that they are willing to engage in dialogue to resolve any alleged administrative issues that may be causing the authorities to stop purchasing their milk. "If they tell us there's some inconsistency, we accept it, but we ask for an extension so that everything can be gradual. Milking cannot be abruptly stopped," Molina asserted. The producers have assured that if they do not receive a response in the next few days, they may escalate their protests, which could involve roadblocks on important routes."
