"Dalma Maradona, the daughter of the late Argentinian football star Diego Maradona, has accused the medical team that cared for her father of negligence after testifying in court against seven health professionals who are accused of intentional homicide in connection with the death of the former football player. Outside the Oral Criminal Court No. 7 in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, on Tuesday, Dalma made a reference to leaked audio recordings from the medical team, where they spoke in a disparaging manner about her father. "Obviously, some people might say, well, speaking ill of him doesn't relate to how they behaved as doctors, but for me it does, because in those audios they also reveal that they preferred not to check on him, that they preferred to take a week to see him. So those things are recorded," she pointed out and specified that her father at that time 'could not go a week without having his vital signs checked'. The idol's daughter also recalled that, two days after her father was admitted to the hospital, she and her sister, Gianinna, were contacted by members of the medical team following an 'episode' related to Maradona's health. She described the doctors' inquiry as to 'what should be done' and reported that there was no ambulance available to attend to her father's condition. "It was like an alarm went off for us when we said, 'But okay, we can give our opinion, but from there to deciding the treatment my dad should have in an emergency moment, no," the woman noted. Maradona died on November 25, 2020, due to cardiorespiratory arrest and pulmonary oedema while recovering from neurosurgery in a house in the locality of Tigre, about 50 kilometres north of Buenos Aires. The judicial process is examining the responsibilities of the medical team and the circumstances under which Maradona's home hospitalisation was conducted, which was managed by the pre-paid medical company Swiss Medical. The trial is also seeking to establish whether negligence played a role in the care Maradona received before his death. Doctors, nurses and other health professionals are charged with 'simple homicide with eventual intent' in the oral proceedings."
