"Thousands of people from various nationalities joined the group of volunteers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Guadalajara, one of the three Mexican cities that will host tournament matches in the group stage. The program brings together young people and adults to support the organization of the football's top event. Images recorded this Tuesday show the selected volunteers participating in recreational activities such as 'teqball', football, and board games, while finalizing the last details to host the four World Cup matches scheduled at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara. "In the 16 cities, we had more than a million applications from different parts of the world. Countries like the United States, Morocco, and Mexico stand out," reported Karla Carrillo, director of volunteers in Guadalajara for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She detailed that in Guadalajara, more than 32,000 applications were received, but only 3,800 were accepted. The volunteers are of different ages and nationalities, giving the event a multicultural character. "There are profiles from 18 years old, because that is one of the requirements, to have been 18 years old at the time of application, up to people who are over 80. So, there is a multigenerational and multicultural coexistence," she highlighted. For volunteer Miriam Gabriela Diaz, who is also a cancer survivor, this is an opportunity she had been waiting for years. After losing the chance to participate as a volunteer in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, she decided to apply for this event and fulfill a pending goal. That same goal is shared by David Zamora, a Colombian volunteer who expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the event. "It's very wonderful. You feel a fervor and I feel a great emotion because since I was a child, I was taught to love Mexico, I have always loved Mexico, and Mexico has given me a lot," he stated. This experience took on special meaning for Zamora, as his mother, Rocio Mora, also decided to join as a volunteer in Guadalajara. "Being with my mom is something unparalleled because my mom has fought a lot for where I am. We are together, we have always been together, and we said: let's see if we end up separated. But God surprised us by being together," he emphasized. With a capacity of 48,000 fans, the Akron Stadium will host the national teams of the Republic of Korea, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain, and Mexico during the group stage."
