Pulse of life - Two vital water reservoirs destroyed following reported US strikes in southern Iran

"Two water reservoirs in the coastal city of Sirik suffered extensive damage on Wednesday, according to reports. Tehran has blamed the damage on US airstrikes in the region. The footage shows the aftermath of an attack and also captures graffiti on a water tank wall that reads, 'Water is the pulse of life. Let's keep it flowing by not wasting a single drop'. According to the Iranian News Agency (Tansim), the Hormozgan province water and wastewater company said, "The water supplies were cut off to approximately 20,000 residents as a result of US strikes on two concrete water reservoirs in the Bemani district in Sirik County, southern Iran." "The two reservoirs with a capacity of 2,500 cubic metres in total are playing a key role in supplying potable water to the city of Kuhestak and ten surrounding villages. The residents lost access to safe drinking water amidst a severe heatwave of 45 to 50 degrees Celsius," Hormozgan's managing director explained. He further noted that the estimated damage is "140 billion tomans (roughly $790,000). Emergency crews are striving now to provide water via tanker trucks and install alternative pumps to mitigate the hardship of the inhabitants." He also warned that 'rebuilding the destroyed tanks will take significant time'. The US has confirmed launching overnight strikes against Iranian air defence, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz. On Wednesday, the military described the operation, which utilised precision munitions deployed by US Air Force fighter jets, as a 'self-defence' response following the downing of a US Apache helicopter and recent attacks on international commercial vessels. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that several US air and naval bases in the region have been powerfully struck in retaliation for what they called US aggression in southern Iran. The group rejected Washington's justification for the strikes, claiming that they were carried out under the false pretext of a US helicopter crash. The IRGC warned that if similar actions are repeated, more severe and widespread attacks will be carried out against a designated list of targets in the region. The conflict erupted after the US-Israeli joint military operation against Iran on February 28. Since then, there have been exchanges of missile strikes, escalating tensions across the region. In April, a tentative ceasefire was declared, paving the way for a diplomatic path forward."
