Counsel asks DOJ to exclude Atong Ang in Manila ‘sabungeros’ case

MANILA, Philippines — The lawyer of gambling tycoon Atong Ang appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday to appeal that his client be excluded in the ongoing case in Manila involving the cockfighting aficionados (“sabungeros”). In a chance interview after his appearance at the DOJ, Atty. Gabriel Villareal said he pleads to the DOJ, arguing that Ang had nothing to do with the kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC).
