"Member of the Hungarian National Assembly Balazs Hidveghi from Budapest on Monday, said Europe must negotiate with Russia despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. "You have to negotiate with the Russians. This is our firm conviction. Especially in a situation like this, when Russia is at war with neighbouring Ukraine, which borders the European Union, and mostly with us, as we see the world through Hungarian eyes," Hidveghi said. "It cannot be done to bring the entire foreign policy down to such a level, like, say, Kaja Kallas, on the hobbyhorse, because I see something extremely inappropriate, and a ridiculous figure, the so-called High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs," he added. It comes after the EU has imposed further sanctions on Moscow and supported Kiev with military aid. Poland, the Baltic states, and several EU officials warned that any concession could embolden further aggression. In a statement last month, the office said the EU would continue 'coordinated action to uphold international law and protect Ukrainian sovereignty'. It claimed that some EU representatives are irrelevant on the global stage and are no longer treated as serious partners. According to recent polling in Hungary, nearly half of the population (47 percent) views Russia as a source of danger, yet an equal number (50 percent) perceives Ukraine as a threat, reflecting a divided public."
