Market rebound! - NYSE surges as Trump's 'productive' Iran talks halt global stock slide

"The New York Stock Exchange bell signalled a two percent surge on Monday morning, snapping a four-week slide as investors reacted to President Trump's announcement of positive discussions with Iran. Footage shows officials ringing the bell in New York City, followed by cheers and applause, following weeks of market unrest. It comes amid the ongoing unrest in the Middle East, which has sent global energy prices soaring and led to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which handles 20 per cent of global oil traffic. Trump previously threatened to 'obliterate' Tehran's power plants if the Strait of Hormuz did not reopen within the next 48 hours. On Monday, Trump announced 'very good discussions' with Tehran, confirming a five-day pause on planned strikes against Iran's energy infrastructure. Iran's foreign ministry denied talks had taken place. The US and Israel have been engaged in a military conflict with Iran since February 28, which began with the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Over 1,400 Iranians have been killed since then, and at least 18 Israeli deaths have been confirmed."
