Asean fuel-sharing pact could help oil crisis – Escudero

MANILA, Philippines – An agreement within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to share fuel during emergencies could prove useful during energy crises, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero said on Tuesday. Escudero, in a statement, urged the government to utilize the Philippines’ chairmanship of the Asean Summit this year to push for the Asean Petroleum Security Agreement (APSA). “By accelerating APSA’s completion, Asean can establish its own mechanism for emergency fuel supply, triggered when a member state experiences a shortfall of at least 10 percent,” the senator noted.
