Tiger Woods makes huge announcement as Masters creeps closer

Tiger Woods is set to return to competitive golf this evening when he lines up for Jupiter Links Golf Club in a pivotal TGL encounter against Los Angeles Golf Club. The 50-year-old, who has been absent from PGA Tour action since July 2024, will step back into the playing roster for the final night of the TGL season. Woods has occupied a non-playing position with Jupiter Links throughout the current campaign but has now inserted himself into the team for tonight's crucial fixture. The 15-time Major winner takes the place of Kevin Kisner, the four-time Tour champion who serves as an NBC Sports commentator. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say Jupiter Links must secure victory in Match 2 to draw level in the series and force a deciding third contest at the SoFi Cup Finals. Los Angeles claimed the opening match 6-5, meaning triumph tonight would hand them the title outright. Should Woods and his teammates prevail, a third match would follow later the same evening. The golfing icon will compete alongside Max Homa and Tom Kim, facing a Los Angeles side comprising Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Sahith Theegala. TGL confirmed the lineup change on Monday evening, unveiling the news with a social media post echoing Michael Jordan's famous NBA comeback. Scans revealed a collapsed disc at L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal, prompting the decision to proceed with the operation. "After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken," Woods stated on his X account at the time. "I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back." The procedure followed an earlier lumbar spine operation in September 2024, with Woods spending the past five months in recovery. Woods' comeback arrives just two weeks before the Masters, though whether the five-time Augusta champion will compete remains unclear. The American missed last year's tournament after undergoing Achilles tendon surgery during the TGL season. In February, Woods maintained that a Masters appearance was not "off the table," but has since offered a more cautious assessment of his condition. "Disc replacement is not a lot of fun," he remarked last week, referencing fellow professional Will Zalatoris who underwent a similar procedure. "I've had a lot of procedures prior to that, so the body doesn't quite heal like it was when I was 24. Doesn't quite bounce back. "So I have good days when I can pretty much do anything, and other days where it's hard to just move around." Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter
