'Throwing aside the cloak'

“Throwing aside the cloak” was recently published by Catholic book publisher, Pauline. The original title is “Nascere di nuovo” (to be born again) written by Gaetano Piccolo, an Italian Jesuit priest. It deals with the journey of inner healing and lays out nine steps to be born anew spiritually at a turning point in one's life. The author of the book introduces the readers to various biblical characters such as Bartimaeus, Nicodemus — a sick person at a pool called Bethesda — Naaman, Lazaro, a woman caught committing adultery, a man born blind and others more. Among them, Bartimaeus caught my attention. The story of Bartimaeus, a blind man, tells us that he threw his cloak aside after encountering Jesus as told in Mark 10:46-52. It is a beautiful story about healing that invites us to experience the gradual process of inner transformation. In Jericho, Jesus met Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus sat by the roadside, begging.
