Fuel relief drive - Marcos meets commuters as Philippines rolls out transport subsidy to counter soaring oil prices

"Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr visited the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Tuesday as the government launched a fuel subsidy programme for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, aiming to provide immediate financial relief to the transport sector amid surging global oil prices. Footage shows Marcos greeting passengers, speaking with commuters, and observing operations at one of Metro Manila’s busiest transport terminals during the distribution event. “I’m here to ensure that what we are doing to provide fuel subsidies is done properly. We start today, not only here in Metro Manila but all over the country, and we ensure that the system is properly done. We're now providing a 10,000 subsidy for each bus unit, so please help us so that our riding public will not feel burdened by transportation fares,” Marcos told the crowd. The subsidy programme is aimed at easing the financial burden on drivers and operators facing rising fuel costs, driven by ongoing global energy volatility. The initiative forms part of broader government measures to stabilise transport fares and support the public transport sector. The move comes amid continued global market pressure linked to geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, which have contributed to higher oil prices and increased operating costs for transport services across many countries."
